Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is issuing a massive safety recall covering 328,381 Jeep SUVs because their rear coil springs may have been installed incorrectly and could detach from the vehicle while driving. The action affects three variants of the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee:

- 2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (215,433 units)
- 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee (97,477 units)
- 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (15,471 units)
Vehicles equipped with the Quadra-Lift air suspension feature are excluded from the recall campaign.

A Repeating Issue Requiring a New Fix
This latest action replaces two previous recall campaigns—NHTSA recall numbers 23V413 and 26V051. According to safety filings submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), earlier inspection-based remedies failed to permanently resolve the issue after regulators received complaints of springs coming loose even on vehicles that had already undergone recall repairs.
If a rear coil spring detaches while the vehicle is in motion, it poses a severe road hazard to trailing traffic and can cause a sudden loss of vehicle stability and control for the driver, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
Crucially, all vehicles previously repaired under the earlier recalls must undergo this updated remedy procedure.
The issue is with the lower spring isolators manufactured by AirBoss. As of early August 2026, the automaker had received 406 warranty claims and 29 customer assistance records, but no accidents or injuries have been reported.

Free Replacement Component and Notification Timeline
Rather than relying on visual inspections alone, dealership service departments will replace the rear coil spring lower isolators on all affected vehicles free of charge.
FCA US expects to begin mailing interim safety risk notification letters to owners on September 29, 2026, with a secondary notice following once dealership service bays receive full inventory of the replacement isolators.
Owners with questions can contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing internal recall code 89D. Affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 9, 2026, under campaign number 26V562000.
